Protecting the Marine Environment

We consider it our priority to ensure that our products are manufactured and their installation is carried out in the most sustainable way possible with minimum impact on the environment.

  1. Products are produced with timber frames. Timber is the only fully sustainable construction material. It grows – concrete, steel, and aluminium don’t! We pay particular attention to sourcing our timber from certified suppliers.

  2. The Fiberglass encapsulation of the timber is a non corrosive material which does not leach any chemicals into the sea water. It is light and easy to repair, which means that our jetties and pontoons have much longer life and much lower maintenance costs than their concrete or aluminium counterparts. At the end of their life can be dismantled and recycled to a large degree.

  3. Our decking - MoistureShield is a 90% recycled composite wood decking which can be recycled itself. It needs minimal maintenance and does not cause any pollution to the marine environment. In certain markets it gains extra LEED certification points.

  4. Installation
Our recommended anchoring systems cause no damage to the seabed. Traditionally, jetties and pontoons are fixed either by piles or chained to concrete blocks on the seabed. Piles are very expensive and made of concrete or steel – all corroding materials. Concrete blocks and chains cause even more damage, destroying every kind of marine life in their way.

Our recommended anchoring system uses Helix anchors, which are screwed into the seabed and have a footprint of about 30 square cm. The anchors are connected to the jetty via Hazelett Elastic Rodes which stretch with the tide- unlike metal chains which, during low tide lie on the seabed, scouring it with their movement, killing any marine growth, and clouding the water.

  5. Maintenance and durability
Our products are designed for a minimum 40 year life cycle. During that time, using non-corrosive materials means no toxic leakages into the marine environment. Other widely used materials corrode more quickly and need much more frequent maintenance, repair or replacement. Our jetties and marinas are easily maintained which leads to longer service life, and reduces the need to replace installations using more of the Earth’s valuable resources.
